Hi John,
Our prime minister just told the COP30 climate summit in Brazil that the UK is "all in" on climate. But without action, this is hot air. One thing our government could do that would make a huge difference is drop corporate courts from its trade agreements.
These destructive trade rules are handing the fossil fuel industry a powerful weapon, allowing coal, oil and mining companies to sue countries for climate policies they claim will harm their profits. The threat of these corporate claims is blocking climate action, and adding to the costs of the green transition, with countries shelling out billions of public money to big business, and millions to lawyers even if they do win. New Zealand and Denmark have already admitted they curbed their climate policy in fear of corporate courts.
That’s exactly why we’re hosting events at the COP30 climate talks in a few days: To highlight how corporate courts block climate action and urge more governments to join the growing pushback against them. Countries like Colombia and South Africa are already standing up to corporate courts. The UK must be next!
But to build momentum and take this fight further at COP30 and beyond we need your help. Can you stand with us by donating £5 today and power the campaign further after the COP?

So far our government has been unwilling to oppose corporate courts, despite concerns expressed in opposition. But now the UK is being sued over a ruling to stop a coal mine in Cumbria. This is a tipping point for the campaign, and with your help we can seize it. As we’re facing the risk of millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money being pocketed by a mining giant, now is the moment to force a change in our government’s stance.

In 2025 oil, gas and mining firms have broken records in the number of claims they have filed – on top of the $80 billion already awarded to fossil fuel companies in recent decades. This is money that should be for people – for healthcare, education, housing and tackling the climate crisis.
We have to take away the fossil fuels industry's secret weapon. The sooner the better. Will you help our campaign by donating today?

A wave of countries are already turning away from these toxic trade rules, from South Africa and Australia to Brazil, Colombia and Honduras. Together, they’re proving that corporate courts can be challenged and defeated. But to keep the pressure rising, our global movement must also continue long after COP30. That’s how we turn international collaboration into real change here at home.
With your help today we can strengthen our ties with allies around the world and focus our collective campaigning. You’ll also help increase the pressure on our government here in the UK by getting more of the public to take action and more MPs to demand a trade policy that protects people and the planet.
Thank you for everything you do to take our campaigns forward.

Best wishes,

Cleodie Rickard,
Trade campaigner at Global Justice Now

PS. Corporate courts are blocking climate action. Can you donate to strengthen the global movement against them and push our government to drop these toxic trade rules?
