Next Wednesday, November 12, The Claremont Institute will gather to honor that courage at The American Sheriff Dinner in Orange County, CA.

This year’s American Sheriff Award will be presented to Sheriff Michael Lewis of Wicomico County, Maryland, recognizing his steadfast defense of law and order in his community and across the nation.

Keynote remarks will be delivered by Tom Homan, White House Border Czar, whose leadership has renewed America’s commitment to secure borders and restored public safety.

2025 American Sheriff Honoree Sheriff Michael Lewis

Sheriff Michael A. Lewis has dedicated more than three decades to public safety, beginning with a 22-year career as a Maryland State Police sergeant and nationally recognized criminal interdiction expert, before taking the helm as Sheriff of Wicomico County in 2006.

Sheriff Lewis’s expertise has shaped law enforcement nationally and internationally, with thousands of officers across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and other regions receiving his training. His work has included collaborative missions with the Drug Enforcement Agency and Department of Justice in the Sinaloa Valley, testimony before the Maryland General Assembly, and frequent participation in national law enforcement forums, including serving twice as President of the Maryland State Sheriffs' Association.
