Dear Friend,
For too long, some Mississippi Republicans have taken comfort in a false sense of security—assuming our state will stay red forever. But Tuesday’s election results should be a wake-up call. Democrats flipped two seats and stripped us of our Republican supermajority for the first time in 13 years.
This didn’t happen by accident. Yes, these special elections came as a result of the forced court-ordered creation of majority-minority legislative districts. But it also happened because national Democrats have targeted Mississippi with dark money, structured national organization, and clever, even if wrong-minded, strategy in an effort to turn our state blue much like they’ve done in Virginia—while too many Mississippi Republicans have been complacently sitting on the sidelines.
Democrats poured six-figure sums into Tuesday’s five legislative races, determined to chip away at our conservative leadership one district at a time. National Democrats know it costs less to turn a seat in Mississippi than it does in Florida or Texas—and their investment paid off.
National Democrats also spent almost $900,000 in the Gulfport mayoral race last fall—in an attempt to turn our second-largest city, and strongest redhold, blue. They funneled $300,000–$400,000 in out-of-state dark money to try to defeat conservative Justice Jenifer Branning in the Supreme Court race. And they sent six-figure checks to the Mississippi Democratic Party last fall to turn what was once an amateur operation into a slick, professional communications machine.
Let’s not forget the $12 million in out-of-state money that flooded Brandon Presley’s campaign against Governor Tate Reeves in 2023—and even more democrat money from places like Illinois, California, and New York is expected to pour into the difficult gubernatorial race in 2027.
Mississippi Democrats are now a fully-funded national project—and they are coming for every courthouse, every city hall, and every legislative seat we have.
Meanwhile, your Mississippi Republican Party has been working harder than ever—on a shoestring budget and staff. We’ve recruited and trained the largest number of poll watchers and election integrity workers in our state’s history. We helped elect Justice Jenifer Branning and Gulfport Mayor John Keating, helped flip Neshoba County and the City of Flora red for the first time ever, and saw Democrat officeholders switch parties because they finally realized their values align with ours. For the first time, Republican candidates are running proudly under the GOP banner in municipalities like Flowood instead of hiding behind the word “Independent.” Yet, it’s not enough.
As Governor Haley Barbour once said, “Elected officials come and go, but the Party remains—and must be strong.” He’s right. The Mississippi Republican Party isn’t a campaign or a candidate; it’s the foundation of the conservative movement in our state. And what binds us together as a Party are the values contained in our Mississippi Republican Party Platform—Faith, Freedom, and Family. But that foundation only stands if every Mississippi Republican helps hold it up.
NOW is the time to volunteer, give, and get involved. Contribute to the Unified Republican Fund ([link removed]) , attend a fundraiser, help with Get-Out-the-Vote, or sign up to be a poll watcher. We need YOU. Freedom doesn’t sustain itself. As President Ronald Reagan reminded us, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on to our children.” Let’s fight together to keep our state RED!
And while we may not agree on everything, Reagan also said, “If you agree with someone 80 percent of the time, they’re your friend and ally— not a 20 percent traitor.” It’s time for Mississippi Republicans to remember that truth as we unite under our conservative Mississippi Party Platform. We must stop the infighting and focus on what unites us—not what divides us. If we don’t, we’ll hand victory to the Democrats without them ever spending another penny in our great state.
Our Founding Fathers and Mothers warned us that our liberty requires unity, courage, and eternal vigilance. They united together and vigilantly fought for the freedoms we enjoy today: at Lexington and Concord, at Bull Run and Gettysburg, at Saipan and Iwo Jima, at Bastogne and Normandy; as the Pilgrims crossed dangerous oceans to hew a continental national out of a treacherous wilderness, and as the Pioneers left familiar Eastern towns headed west, leaving their children buried along the trail. They fought together, and many gave up their tomorrow, so that we could have our today—and so that we could have a state and a nation to be proud of. May we be as courageous, united, and vigilant now.
That vigilance starts with us, at home—in our precincts, in our churches, in our communities, and in our Party. Mississippi’s strong conservative values contained in our Mississippi Party platform are worth protecting. Let’s stand shoulder to shoulder, not back to back, and fight for the red state we love.
Together, we can keep Mississippi RED—strong, free, and firmly grounded in the conservative principles that made her and our nation great. May God bless our Party, our great state of Mississippi, and our great nation.
