In 1995, Jill Vialet, Playworks’ Founder, sat across from a principal who arrived at their meeting with three kids in tow. It was their third trip to the office that week for fighting on the playground.

“These aren’t bad kids,” the principal explained, “they’re just using their energy unwisely at recess.” Then she posed a question that sparked a movement:
