Dear Friend
False promises of a marriage and a life together
was how the Tate brothers allegedly recruited their victims to traffick them on OnlyFans.
Kat Torres touted a lavish lifestyle
on social media, partying with celebs like Leonardo DiCaprio. But survivors say her wellness business was really a tactic to them into her orbit and force them into prostitution.
Leveraging his power and influence in the music industry
, Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly coerced women into sexual intercourse with prostituted men while he recorded the footage and pleasured himself.
This is what sex trafficking looks like.
It’s not always like it is in the movies: girls being kidnapped off the street and forced into the sex trade in a foreign country.
In the age of the Internet and social media, sex trafficking tactics are much more diverse and complicated than the public perceives them to be.
Sex trafficking involves compelling someone to perform a commercial sex act by way of
force, fraud, or coercion.
Commercial sex acts are any sex acts on account of which
anything of value (e.g., money, clothes, shelter, food, drugs, etc.)
is given to or received by any person.
It’s vital to understand the vast methods by which sex trafficking can take place, especially in the age of the Internet. In fact, today,
the Internet is the most common way that sex traffickers access their victims.
Misconceptions about how sex trafficking occurs, or even what constitutes sex trafficking, are
incredibly dangerous.
It’s the reason, experts argue, that
Sean Combs was acquitted of sex trafficking charges,
,
despite the overwhelming evidence against him. And it’s a key reason why
many of the NCOSE Law Center’s survivor clients face an uphill battle
in their fight for justice.
Until we, as a society, understand the full scope of modern-day sex trafficking, countless more survivors will be denied justice.
