Democrat Eric Swalwell represents California's 14th Congressional District. 

Yesterday marked the longest government shutdown in American history – breaking a record also set under President Donald Trump. The second-longest shutdown? Yep, that was under Trump, too. 

What does this say? It shows how little Trump and Republicans actually care about the American people.
 
Hundreds of thousands of federal workers remain furloughed or unpaid as airports face delays going into the busiest season, vital services stall, and families wait for benefits that never arrive. 

As usual, Republican leaders would rather play politics and refuse to extend subsidies that keep Americans from paying thousands more on healthcare than actually keep this country running.

Myself and my Democratic colleagues will not stop fighting every day to end this shutdown. But make no mistake: Republicans have repeatedly shown their priorities aren’t with you. 

We can’t let this stand.
