Today members of Democratic Socialists of America, with young people and working people across the country, are celebrating last night’s tremendous victory by Zohran Mamdani in inarguably the most important city in the world - the epicenter of capitalism - New York City. He won against the Billionaire Class, their surrogates in the Democratic Party establishment,  and Trump and the Right - putting on full display the democratic socialist theory of change that helped win the election.

Zohran Mamdani’s victory shows that when a candidate unapologetically fights for working class people, with a clear vision that foregrounds the needs of the working class, we can win elections, we can inspire people and we can build a grassroots mass movement capable of changing the world.

Zohran’s campaign has begun building a powerful grassroots movement, one that will be needed to win:

  • 104,000 volunteers

  • 3 million doors knocked

  • 1000 people joined DSA on election day

We are excited to see how they develop this movement further and to bring to bear the power of working people to win the campaign’s demands of freezing the rent, free and fast buses, and universal free childcare!

DSA ran 23 nationally endorsed candidates across the country, 12 of those candidates have won, with 7 races left to be called. These victories are not finish lines but important milestones! At DSA’s 2025 National Convention, delegates committed our organization to running candidates for federal office in 2026 and a candidate for President in 2028 - to make this happen we need all of you to get engaged, get involved, and get organized!

Join DSA today!

If you are energized to get involved then on Saturday November 8th join Seattle DSA's Member Engagement Committee for an introduction to socialism, DSA, and the Seattle DSA chapter.

What do the elections tell us about the Democratic Party? How will/can Mamdani and Katie Wilson win their campaign’s demands that inspired millions (assuming they get elected)?

What are some potential challenges and dangers for Mamdani and Wilson?
What role can Seattle DSA, the Left and DSA writ large play in winning the campaign demands and holding the electeds to account?
