Friends,
You might have heard the news by now.
I have decided not to run for Governor of California.
I’m proudly continuing to serve in the U.S. Senate.
Let me tell you why.
I love California and its people. I am grateful every day to have the privilege of serving the people of the Golden State in the Senate. Together, we’ve fought to protect California and the American Dream from a vindictive president who is hell bent on increasing costs for working families, rolling back environmental protections, decreasing access to health care, and undermining our voting and civil rights. We’ve all had enough of the corruption and the chaos.
And so, with a full heart and more committed than ever, I’m staying in the fight.
I’m staying in the fight to protect California and all of America from Trump and his unhinged attacks.
I’m staying in this fight to protect Californians who’ve found themselves targeted by this administration’s cruel mass deportation agenda.
I’m staying in this fight to stop Trump and the GOP from making health care inaccessible for millions of Americans.
I’m staying in this fight to keep this administration from rolling back all the progress we’ve made to protect our environment and guarantee clean air and drinking water.
I’m staying in this fight to protect our most fundamental rights — including our civil rights and the right to vote.
I’m staying in the fight because even though we passed Prop 50 and struck a blow against Trump and MAGA’s attempts to rig the midterms, there is still much more work to be done.
I’m staying in the fight because Donald Trump and the GOP are doing everything they can to rig the midterm elections and entrench permanent Republican rule, and we need leaders fighting back everywhere — including in Congress.
And I’m staying in the fight for the same reason I got into politics in the first place — to make the American Dream possible for all of us, no matter where we’re born or what we look like.
I hope you’ll stay in the fight with me.
Gratefully,
Alex Padilla
U.S. Senator for California
Alex Padilla made history as California’s first Latino U.S. Senator. Now, he’s leading the fight in the Senate to protect the rights of ALL Americans — no matter where they were born or whatever neighborhood they live in.
