The country has spoken.

After a record Republican government shutdown, the public rewarded Donald Trump and the GOP with a resounding backlash.

Last night, Democrats retook the Virginia governorship, won the New Jersey governorship handily, saw California pass a historic redistricting measure in response to the Republican effort to gerrymander the House in its favor, won New York City, and even won two seats on a commission in Georgia we have not won in decades.

One message ties all of these races together: Americans are tired of rising costs and tired of Trump ignoring them. It is time for the GOP to get the message: fix health care, feed hungry families, address rising prices, and reopen the government so workers get paid.

On the heels of our successes last night, I am looking ahead: The path we pave in the next 365 days will determine whether we can take back the U.S. House. This work starts now and starts local.

Every conversation, every door knocked, every voter registered will help decide the balance of power in Washington, D.C., and have a direct impact on life here in Northwest Washington.
