# [#]John,
First off, thank you. Because of your support last week, we hit our October goal – it’s more proof that our grassroots team still has what it takes to roll up our sleeves and get the job done together.
But while we were closing out that deadline, Congress was failing one of its most basic responsibilities: keeping the government open.
We’re now five weeks into a reckless shutdown, and the only thing either side seems to agree on is that it’s the other guy’s fault. Meanwhile, families are feeling it: missed paychecks, delayed food assistance, rising healthcare costs, and small businesses caught in limbo. Real people are paying the price for political games.
I’d rather have an old jalopy that runs than a shiny new car that doesn’t. A government that works for people – even if it’s not perfect – is better than one that grinds to a halt while politicians fight over who gets to drive.
Shutting the government down over policy differences is like using a jackhammer when you need a chisel – loud, destructive, and it doesn’t fix a thing.
I’m not pretending the disagreements aren’t real. I’ll always fight to protect access to healthcare, strengthen rural economies, and make sure working families aren’t left behind. But none of that gets done when Congress can’t even keep the lights on.
I’ll keep working with anyone who’s serious about finding a way forward, because we can’t fix this country by pointing fingers. We fix it by showing up, listening, and finding common ground where we can.
Thanks again for being part of this team, John. I’ll keep fighting for a Congress that does its job and for a government that actually works for the people it serves.
– Marie
