Last night’s election results were a huge win for affordable clean energy and climate action up and down the ballot. Abigail Spanberger won the Virginia governor’s race, Democrats maintained control of the Virginia state legislature, and Mikie Sherrill took the New Jersey governor’s mansion. On top of that, voters in California approved Proposition 50 as a response to Trump’s partisan redistricting push.
Voters sent a powerful message rejecting the Trump agenda — momentum that we’ll bring into next year’s midterm elections.
These victories belong to everyone who cast a ballot, helped get out the vote, and stood strong in defense of our clean energy future.
That includes NRDC Action Fund supporters like you. Over the past few months, Action Fund volunteers contacted more than 650,000 voters urging them to protect our planet and our democracy. Thank you.
Together, we helped elect climate champions that grew our pro-environment majority in the Virginia House of Delegates from 51 to 64. That includes all five of our endorsed environmental champions:
- Josh Thomas, Virginia’s 21st District
- Joshua Cole, Virginia’s 65th District
- Leslie Mehta, Virginia’s 73rd District
- Nadarius Clark, Virginia’s 84th District
- Michael Feggans, Virginia’s 97th District
These results are no accident — it’s proof of just how important cheaper, cleaner energy and public health are to voters across the country, and how important it is to have all hands on deck to build on this momentum leading into next year’s policy fights and midterm elections.
Sign up for the NRDC Action Fund's All In for Climate Action volunteer program to fight for our clean energy future.
This year, we had a handful of opportunities in a few key states. In the next year we're going to defend our public lands, protect our air and water, and stand up for good paying clean energy jobs, all while making sure we're prepared to win the 2026 midterms. That's a lot, but together we can handle it, and we can win.
So today I’m celebrating. But the work is far from over. I hope we can count on you to stand with us, speak out, and get out the vote in the year ahead.
Join our All In For Climate Action list for actions YOU can take to help elect environmental champions and hold the line against the Trump administration’s attacks on our environment.
Thanks for all that you do,
Mike Cassesso
