Friend,
This Monday will see a truly historic White House meeting.
After almost 14 years of barrel bombs, mass devastation and ISIS takeovers, the Syrian civil war is over, Assad is gone and Syria’s new president – Ahmed al-Sharaa – will walk into the Oval Office.
Behind the photo-op is a high-stakes negotiation over Syria’s future: Reconstruction, fighting ISIS, sanctions relief, security guarantees, the relationship with Israel and the path forward for millions displaced by a catastrophic war.
For a preview of this pivotal moment, register for the J Street Policy Center briefing with two regional experts this Friday, November 7 at 12pm Eastern / 9am Pacific >>

The collapse of the Assad regime has opened the door for a new course in the Israel-Syria relationship. Despite continued provocations from the Netanyahu government, the Trump Administration is rightly pressing for both sides to make the most of this.
Just across the border, Lebanon stands at an inflection point of its own. With Hezbollah seriously degraded, the new leadership in Lebanon has renewed prospects for its disarmament and a better future for the Lebanese people.
To discuss the current situation in Syria and Lebanon, Sharaa’s trip to Washington, Hezbollah’s disarmament, and the potential for better relations between Israel and its northern neighbors, join me on Friday for a virtual briefing with regional experts Ibrahim Al-Assil and Jasmine El-Gamal. Ibrahim Al-Assil is the Syria Project lead for the Atlantic Council’s Middle East programs. He was a founding member and president of the Syrian Nonviolence Movement and has advised US, European and regional policymakers.
Jasmine El-Gamal is a former Middle East policy advisor at the Pentagon and the CEO of Mindwork Strategies. Jasmine served as the Acting Chief of Staff for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Middle East Policy, and as the Special Assistant to three Under Secretaries of Defense for Policy.
See you soon,
