Senator René García held an open discussion Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Florida International University (FIU) on the future of Miami-Dade County’s food supply, the role of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and how the county is leading the effort to phase out harmful additives in favor of safer, natural alternatives. The panel consisted of five experts that weighed in on the topic of synthetic food dyes, beverages, and the overall well-being of the public’s health with a consensus that synthetic chemicals offer no nutritional benefit and may pose significant health risks to consumers.
