John, It feels good to celebrate. Yesterday, voters in local races across the country – in California, New York City, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and more – sent a clear, decisive message: we’re rejecting Trump’s toxic, fascist agenda. Governors, Mayors, County Executives – in judicial races and statewide ballot measures – authoritarianism was rejected, Kings were rejected, and Trump’s cruelty and corruption were resoundingly rejected. Here are just a few of the ways voters rejected Trumpism and embraced change: In New Jersey: Rep. Mikie Sherrill also won by double digits, with Democrats holding the governorship for the third consecutive term – the first time this has occurred in New Jersey in years. The majority of Food & Water Action’s slate of climate champion candidates for mayor and city council in Jersey City either won their race outright or will advance to the December runoff election.
In Pennsylvania: In retaining all three Democratic Supreme Court justices on the ballot, Democrats will maintain a majority on the state’s high court, protecting voting rights and fair elections in this critical swing state. Former Food & Water Watch volunteer leader Tara Zrinski also won her race for Northampton County Executive, winning a county Trump won last year by almost 20%.
These wins were possible because people like you, John, won’t sit back and watch Trump dismantle our democracy. We’ve been fighting back, showing our power, and refusing to give up on our vision for a healthy, livable, and affordable future for all. Together, we’ve been able to block some of the worst of Trump’s attacks at the federal level – attacks on clean water, a healthy environment, and free speech – and now, voters have rejected everything he stands for at the ballot box. Your efforts matter, and yesterday’s elections are evidence of that. There will be more to fight tomorrow. But today, I hope you’ll join me in taking a moment to celebrate these inspiring wins.
