Hi John,
I know you hear from a lot of campaigns, so I want to take a moment to introduce myself and tell you why I’m reaching out.
Here it goes:
I grew up in Portland, Michigan. My dad worked construction — 70 to 80 hours a week during the season, snow removal when it got cold. He didn’t mind getting calluses on his hands if it meant putting food on the table. Thanks to him and my mom, my sisters and I were the first in our family to go to college.

My dad, sister, and me.
That experience shaped everything I’ve done since: from leading Head Start programs to serving at the Michigan Department of Education, to ultimately running for Congress, I’ve spent my career fighting to make it a little easier for working families.
We all see that the playing field is increasingly stacked against working families.
Child care costs are up. Groceries are too expensive. Public schools are under pressure, and too many families are being forced to make tradeoffs they shouldn’t have to make.
Since I was sworn in earlier this year, I’ve been focused on changing that — from fighting to keep our local Social Security office open to pushing back against cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, you have my word you have my word that I’ll never stop showing up for the families who need someone in their corner.
But unfortunately, none of this has stopped national Republicans from attacking me with nearly a million dollars in attack ads… in fact, it’s put a target on my back. They see this district as critical to winning the House Majority, and for Democrats to win, we need to win here.
So John, I hope that explains why you’ve been hearing from us so often. Because the truth is, we can’t afford to fall behind. Not now. And if you’re still with me — and you’re in a position to chip in, your $15 donation would mean a lot.

Thank you,
Kristen
