Today, I am proud to share that A Woman's Place endorses Congresswoman Lauren Underwood in her bid for re-election.
Lauren is a nurse and public health professional who is the living embodiment of why we need more women in office. The U.S. has the worst rate of maternal mortality in the developed world and is significantly worse for women of color. Using her expertise and advocacy, Lauren founded the Black Maternal Health Caucus last year and introduced a package of bills, a “Momnibus,” to address this issue in March.
By electing more women to Congress in 2018, including women of color, we moved the issue of maternal mortality from being a back burner issue to a caucus priority. But Lauren's opponent is a self-funded millionaire who has the resources to spend millions on attack ads through Election Day to stop her from pursuing this critical work.
Lauren needs to build the resources necessary to go toe-to-toe with her GOP opponent. She'll need to communicate with voters online, expand her team, get her message out, and counter every attack thrown at her.
