Folks,
Last night was an important step towards taking back our country – but it was only the start.
For months now, President Trump has fought to rig the House map in his favor in an attempt to maintain control of Congress in the midterms – despite how deeply unpopular his agenda is with voters.
He already ordered Texas and North Carolina Republicans to further gerrymander their House districts to force out as many House Democrats as possible. And after watching Democrats' results last night, Republicans aren’t going to stop there.
This is a Republican Party that has sold its heart and soul to whatever Donald Trump wants – no matter the cost to our democracy.
The harsh reality is, we have two options in this moment:
1. Sit back and let Trump avoid accountability by rigging the maps in his favor.
2. Stand up. Push Back. And do everything in our power to win the midterms, elect a Democratic-controlled Congress, and finally have the power we need to put a check on this out-of-control president.
Virginia has a unique opportunity next year to redistrict and flip up to four House seats for Democrats to help offset Trump’s attempt to rig the map for Republicans. Last night’s results prove we are on a path to make it happen, but we’ve got to start building the infrastructure NOW to compete in all corners of Virginia.

This is not an action we should take lightly. Just a few years ago, I was proud to support Virginia’s referendum to establish a non-partisan redistricting commission.
But with Trump in the White House, the stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines and accept defeat in a rigged game.
