Only half of November SNAP benefits will be released. For 42 million Americans who rely on an average of $187 per month to buy groceries, that means trying to stretch $93 through November. That’s $3 a day. Maybe into December.
Payments won't arrive until today at the earliest. Many families may wait days or weeks.

SNAP recipients are bracing for fallout. One woman told reporters that her apartment building houses veterans, seniors, and others on disability support. "The entire building right now is in an uproar because they don’t know where they’re going to get their food from. We have the bread line across the street, but that’s only one meal a day."
Another mother frantically wondered whether her kids will have enough food for the next month. “I’m going through every emotion I can possibly go through, because I don’t want my kids to be without while I’m in here and I can’t help.”

Food banks report they cannot absorb this crisis. For every meal a food bank provides, SNAP provides nine. Even with 50% funding, families face weeks without enough food. And there's no guarantee benefits will return to full amounts in December.
