Hey John, Thanks for being a subscriber of The Needle. Here is your Weekly NRT! To start, here's our 5 of our most popular articles this week. #1 - Our first guest contribution was written by a trans woman named Morrigan. It's a piece on repetition and breaking the cycle. #2 - An op-ed discussing the term "transsexual", and how the in-community, reclaimed, version of the word has a very different meaning and intention compared to the cishet doctors who committed transmedicalist wrongs. #3 - An article debunking some unfortunate misinformation about asylum seeking for trans people who are from the US. #4 - Coverage of the Trump administration's move to use the HHS to issue regulations that would end trans healthcare nationwide. The version of the rules leaked to NPR "only" effects trans people under 19. #5 - A discussion of a recent study that shows many more ways in which transsexual women's health and biology profiles become like that of cis women.

Running The Needle takes the support of readers like you.
We need to both "keep the lights on", and earn enough to pay our contributors above industry standards. We often beat our peers in covering the news first but to keep doing so we have to be able to keep paying our writers more than our fellow trans outlets, such as Trans News Network's $28 an hour rate. We believe in paying trans voices for their work, and we value that work incredibly highly. You can join at the Platinum tier by clicking below. As a platinum subscriber, you get the added benefit of being publicly acknowledged and credited in our work via a dedicated page. Platinum subscriptions are 30 euros a month.

Up next is every article we published since the last NRT went out. First up, our first piece by a guest contributor. Second, coverage from the UK- specifically that the EHRC has been formally accused of being "unfit for purpose" and could face international consequences. The Needle was the first trans news outlet to cover this. Third, an op-ed by Jane which discusses the word "transsexual" and what the word means in a reclaimed context. Another in first-coverage by The Needle, fourth is some news from Indiana about their motor vehicle department trying to ban accurate IDs for trans people. In federal US news, fifth is an article covering how the Trump administration is pushing the HHS to ban trans healthcare nationwide through regulatory fiat. NPR covered these rules, too. However, The Needle appears to be the first outlet that publicized the E.O. 12866 meetings and the fact that every member of the US public is eligible to request one to give feedback directly to the rulemakers. In culture coverage, up next is the seventh in a 7 part series based on an interview with Louise Weard- the filmmaker behind the castration movies. In additional UK news, The Needle was the first trans news outlet to cover a direct action in the UK- specifically where a group called 'Bash Back' vandalized the EHRC headquarters. Next up we have the full interview with Louise Weard republished as one part, instead of seven. In more UK news, The Needle was the first to cover the depth of some new draconian amendments parliament is attempting to push via the new Crime and Policing Bill. Next, Jane wrote an op-ed about messaging in the wake of TikTok's new and worse censorship. The Needle also covered Zohran Mamdani's win and how his policies, campaign trail messaging, and political record all line up as solidly in favor of transsexual rights. Finally, Roberta is back with more coverage from Brazil. Specifically, an expansion of quotas in a federal university in Brazil, guaranteeing a minimum number of spots to trans people in education. Thank you for being a supporter of The Needle. We'll be back next week with another dose of News Replacement Therapy. You can support our coverage by spreading the word and signing up for a paid subscription. They start at 5 euros a month. However, we hope you will support to the level you can. If you're already a paid subscriber, we thank you again for your generous support and solidarity. 💡 Disclaimer: This newsletter is named "News Replacement Therapy" as a cheeky reference to HRT, and is not meant to be an actual, literal medicine or therapy. We aren't trained in that, but to be fair, neither is your doctor.
