Dear Friend,
I never thought I’d be writing a message like this.
In just a few weeks, my husband, Chance, will stand trial. Not because he broke the law, but because he did his job.
Chance has been a police officer in Austin for years. He’s the kind of man who runs toward danger when everyone else is running away. He’s missed birthdays, holidays, and family dinners to protect our community.
And now, the same community he’s risked his life for is letting an anti-cop District Attorney try to take everything from him.
During the 2020 riots, when our city was under attack, Chance followed his training. He used non-lethal measures—exactly what he was instructed to do—to stop violent rioters from destroying property and hurting innocent people.
For that, he’s facing serious prison time.
I’m doing what I never thought I’d have to do and asking a stranger for help.
Friend, will you donate to Chance’s defense today?
We just had our fourth baby a couple of months ago. What should be one of the most joyful times in our lives has become one of the hardest.
Every night, I watch him tuck the kids in and kiss them goodnight. And every night, I fight back the fear that it could be one of the last times he does.
Our children don’t understand why people are saying bad things about their dad. They just know he’s a good man who loves them and wants to keep people safe.
This whole ordeal has broken us in ways I can’t describe. We’ve spent nearly everything we have on legal fees. We’ve leaned on faith, family, and prayer. And now, I’m leaning on you.
Friend, I’m asking for your help—not just for Chance, but for every officer who’s been targeted for doing the right thing.
The National Center for Police Defense has stood by us through every step of this nightmare. They’re helping cover legal costs, connect us with experts, and make sure Chance has a fighting chance in court. But they can’t do it alone.
If you can, please make a donation to help us fight back. Your gift will go toward Chance’s defense and toward protecting other officers who find themselves in the same position.
Donate now to help defend my husband
I don’t know what the future holds. But I know the man I married, and I know he doesn’t deserve this.
Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for standing with us. And thank you for standing up for the men and women who still believe in duty, honor, and justice.
With all my heart,
Kimberly Bretches
