History made: Zohran Mamdani wins New York City
The first Muslim mayor of New York City and a movement for justice that won together
The New York City 2025 general election results are in, and Zohran Mamdani has decisively won , becoming the first Muslim mayor of New York City ! We also congratulate our endorsed City Council leaders — Shahana Hanif, Yusef Salaam, Alexa Avilés, Jacqueline Torres, Harvey Epstein, and Amanda Farías — who are ready to continue their incredible work in City Hall.

Tonight, New York City has shown it is ready for change. Zohran’s win is a testament to the power of staying true to your beliefs and identity. He has been targeted from all sides for his policies and religion. Islamophobia was frequently used as a tactic against him, yet he stayed strong, and the city stood behind him, showing the country that anti-Muslim hate has no place in New York City. Zohran Mamdani has excited millions across the city, and his vision for a system rooted in justice and equity for all has inspired a movement across the country.
What we built together
We are proud to have supported him with our organizing efforts. Earlier this year, we showed up in the primaries and helped organize the community. When he won the Democratic nomination on June 24, 2025, we knew that the fight had just started, so we kept the pressure on for the General Election.

Our NYC organizing team and volunteers:
* Knocked 10,000+ doors
* Sent 50,000 texts
* Made 100,000 calls
We reached voters in every borough, made calls into the night, and had canvass launches in all types of weather. Every conversation that excited a disengaged community member, helped register a first-time voter, or got someone to spread the word among their circle brought us closer to victory.
This is how we create change. And we are just getting started. Zohran will need our support when he gets sworn in as our next mayor to accomplish his ambitious agenda, so, as we look toward 2026, we will continue to stand by him and all elected officials and candidates who share our values.
Let’s enjoy tonight and be proud of this moment. This work would not have been possible without you, and for that, we thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Debbie Almontaser
