John,
We have some great Election Day news.
Denver voters decisively passed Referendum 310, a ballot initiative upholding the city’s ordinance ending the sale of flavored tobacco products – including flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, and flavored cigars! It's another major victory for kids over the tobacco industry. And it bolsters our nationwide campaign to stop the industry from using candy-flavored products to target and addict young people. |
BACKGROUND
After years of campaigning by our coalition, the Denver City Council passed an ordinance last December ending the sale of flavored tobacco products – because 81% of kids who use tobacco start with a flavored product. Then, tobacco industry interests – including tobacco giants Philip Morris International and Altria – once again put profits over health and sought to overturn this good law. |
