Hey John, it’s Jocelyn Benson.

One of my opponents in the race for governor recently attacked me — and the voters who rejected him the last time he ran statewide — with dangerous, debunked conspiracy theories about our elections.

Let me be clear: Michigan’s elections are safe and secure, and the results are an accurate reflection of the will of the people. Period.

That was true in 2020, when John James lost his statewide race — and it’s true today. In fact, the 2020 election was not just safe, secure, and accurate — it was also the most audited election in Michigan’s history.

Those results showed clearly that Donald Trump and John James lost. No amount of lies, conjectures, or threats will change that. And now, the fact that James wants to be Michigan’s next governor and is still denying the truth about 2020 is dangerous and disqualifying.

And frankly, it’s disappointing. We should all expect more from anyone who wants to lead our state. This kind of rhetoric undermines trust in our elections, threatens the safety of our hardworking election officials, poll workers, and their families, and escalates division and discord at a time when our leaders need to be bringing us together.

John, our last three statewide elections broke records for turnout. They were transparent, they were safe, and they were secure.

Look, I’ve run against sore losers and election deniers before. I can take them on again and win. And as I’ve always done, I will stand up to anyone, anytime, who tries to stand in the way of Michiganders' voices and votes. No political rhetoric or threats will ever deter me from that mission.
