Congressman Meeks Urges USDA to Protect Food Stamp Funding During Republican Shutdown
|
Trump is threatening to withhold critical food aid for vulnerable Americans, even after twenty-five states sued and a federal judge ordered the U.S. Department of Agriculture to use contingency funds to ensure November SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) payments.
The Republican shutdown has paused the SNAP benefits, putting 42 million Americans at risk of hunger. I joined 213 House Democrats in urging Secretary Brooke Rollins to release the funds immediately. Families across the nation rely on SNAP to keep food on the table. Just yesterday, his Administration claimed it would abide by the court order and tap a roughly $5 billion contingency fund to keep partial benefits flowing into November — but it turns out Trump was lying once again.

The United States must stand with Jamaica and the entire Caribbean before, during, and after Hurricane Melissa makes landfall.”
