Folks,
There are a little over 5 million people in Alabama - and about 750,000 of our neighbors rely on SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families. They are of every race and religion and live in every corner of the state. What that means is there are probably some folks in your neighborhood that need help, even if you don’t know it. As of now, roughly 15% of our neighbors no longer have the support they need to buy food.
While politicians in Washington argue it is time for Alabamians to step up and do what we do best: help each other out.
First off, if you are able - there has never been a better time to help your local food bank or food pantry. Go take some nonperishable food to your local organization or church. Even better, call ahead and ask them what they need most. Even if Trump relents (and of course he won’t) and provides some benefits this month, these groups are going to be overwhelmed. And believe me, we can be a serious help.
In addition to supporting your local food bank, please share where your neighbors can go to get help. Here are a few resources for wherever folks may be across the state:
