Trump has identified targets to strike within Venezuela as he plans a
ground war to topple the Venezuelan government.^1
Despite a bipartisan coalition of Senators opposing Trump’s lawless
strikes on Venezuelan boats and his unilateral war plans, a source close
to the White House told Semafor that Trump will only coordinate with
Congress “when Maduro’s corpse is in U.S. custody.”^2
Rep. Ro Khanna called on lawmakers to stop Trump’s “blatantly
unconstitutional” attack plans and take urgent action to stop “another
endless, regime-change war.”^3 Senators Tim Kaine, Adam Schiff and Rand
Paul are pushing a war powers resolution to stop Trump from launching an
illegal ground war against Venezuela — and the vote could happen any day.

Video of Trump speaking in 2023 reveals some of his real motivations for
attacking the Maduro government. Trump claimed that Venezuela was on the
verge of collapse during his first term and said, “we would’ve taken it
over, we would’ve gotten all that oil.”^4
Trump has escalated violence and threats against Venezuela for weeks. His
administration has bombed six boats coming from Venezuela, killing at
least 35 people.^5 The military has moved massive warships into the
Caribbean.^6 Trump even authorized the CIA to carry out lethal operations
in Venezuela.^7
Trump’s unauthorized strikes and the prospect of another prolonged,
destabilizing war are fueling some Republican support behind this War
Powers Resolution. But we need more members of Congress to stop Trump NOW!
