Friend,
Right now, families across Shelby County are facing impossible choices.
With the federal government shut down, many of our neighbors who rely on SNAP, or who serve as federal employees, are going without pay or food assistance. They’re doing everything right, but Washington’s dysfunction is putting their lights, their rent, and their dignity at risk.
I refuse to stand by while that happens.
That’s why I’ve called on MLGW to pause utility shut-offs for SNAP recipients until the federal shutdown ends - or through January 31, 2026, whichever comes first. And I’ve urged our county and city partners to launch emergency outreach connecting affected families to local food banks, nonprofits, and utility assistance programs through MLGW.

I’m also calling on landlords and homeowners to show compassion to give tenants grace during this crisis. Because in moments like these, we find out what kind of community we really are.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about people.
Shelby County has always shown up for its own. We did it during COVID, we did it after the storms, and we’ll do it again now.
But here’s the truth: leadership that stands in the gap for working families doesn’t just happen, it takes all of us. When you chip in to support this campaign, you’re helping build a county government that answers to the people, not to politics.
Our movement is rooted in dignity, accountability, and compassion, and right now, we need your voice and your support more than ever.
Can I count on you to make a grassroots contribution today to keep this work going strong? |
Because no one in Shelby County should ever have to go hungry or sit in the dark because of Washington gridlock. Always for our children, Mickell Lowery
P.S. Every single dollar helps us spread this message, organize volunteers, and stand up for working families when it matters most. Thank you for being part of this movement. |
