John,
Happy Election Day! Tonight, 170+ Victory Fund endorsed candidates will be on the ballot, bringing essential representation to city councils, mayoral offices, state legislatures and the U.S. House. We can’t wait to celebrate their historic wins – follow along tonight and count the wins here!
While we’re rooting for all our candidates and another rainbow wave, we’ll be keeping a particularly close eye on these races…
- Texas State Rep. Jolanda Jones is running in a special election for the U.S. House, TX-18, with 15 other candidates in the race.
- Joshua Cole is running a tough reelection campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates. Together with Victory Fund candidates Lindsey Doughtry and Risë Hayes, both running against anti-equality incumbents, these three seats represent bellwether races for the Virginia House.
- Luanne Peterpaul is running to maintain her seat in the New Jersey Assembly after becoming the first out LGBTQ+ woman elected.
- When they win, Erica Deuso and Jasmine Preston could be the first out transgender women elected as mayors in Pennsylvania history!
- Jim McGreevey is running to be mayor of Jersey City. When elected, he will be the first out gay man elected to lead the city!
- Alejandra Salinas will make history as the first out LGBTQ+ Latina elected to the Houston City Council.
- Cayden Davis, running for the Worcester City Council, will be the first out trans man elected in Massachusetts!
As President & CEO Evan Low has said, there is no real ‘off-year’ in the fight for equitable representation. Every election, every ballot, every race is an opportunity to get one step closer to achieving our mission – ensuring LGBTQ+ voices are heard at every level of government.
Thanks for following along with us – and for supporting this essential work. Tonight’s wins are thanks to you. Follow along with us tonight here!
Thank you,
Daniel Hernandez
