Friend,
This weekend, while Donald Trump and his billionaire donors threw a Great Gatsby-themed party, 42 million Americans were worried sick that their food assistance could disappear.
For the first time in U.S. history, a president has allowed the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to lapse during a shutdown – even though money exists to keep it running.
Families. Seniors. Veterans. Pregnant moms. Kids. All caught in the middle of a political standoff.
A federal court has now ordered the administration to use an emergency fund to provide partial SNAP benefits. Even so, the aid will cover only part of what’s needed, and many states say it could take weeks or months to reach households.
Senate Democrats are pushing the Keep SNAP and WIC Funded Act to fully restore benefits, but Senate Republicans blocked it. Anything short of full funding leaves people hungry. That’s the reality.
Add your name to demand that Trump and Congressional Republicans stop this manufactured hunger crisis and fully fund SNAP and WIC now.
Sincerely,
Chuck Schumer
