🌲 Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Update
Staff, volunteers, and park visitors have continued to detect and report populations of hemlock woolly adelgid throughout the park system. Our team has been treating affected trees with imidacloprid injections, which protect hemlocks for roughly 4–6 years.
Treatment progress by park:
-
Rosy Mound Natural Area: 96% of 1,987 injectable hemlocks treated.
-
Stearns Creek: 51 hemlocks treated in a small patch along the creek, with more scheduled for tagging next season.
-
Hemlock Crossing: 89% of 177 injectable hemlocks treated, primarily along the river.
