I have amazing news to share – WE WON!! (I can’t tell you how good it feels, in a state like Oregon, to be able to say those words!)

On Friday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in our favor in our lawsuit against the state of Oregon.

We had filed our complaint in 2023 over a pro-abortion law that would force us to include abortion in the health insurance benefits we offer our employees. The law allows some narrow religious exceptions, but Oregon refused to grant us an exception even though we’re an organization dedicated to opposing abortion based upon sincerely held religious beliefs.

It’s been a tough road – last year, a district judge dismissed our claim. But we weren’t about to give up. We appealed to the Ninth Circuit and held our breath as our legal team made our case.

On Friday, we could breathe again – and celebrate!

In the 2-1 opinion, Judge Lawrence VanDyke upheld the arguments we’ve been making all along. The case will now go back to the district court with instructions to do it correctly this time. And with the excellent opinion and concurrence by Judge VanDyke, we’re very hopeful about the final outcome.
