John, it’s
Election Day!
There are some big statewide elections happening today that will have
national implications. So if you’re in a state that has elections, don’t
forget to make a plan to vote before polls close.

As you make your plan to vote, here’s what we’re watching today:
➡️ California: Proposition 50
The Swing Left community has been working hard to turn out the vote for
Proposition 50—also known as the Election Rigging Response Act. If passed,
Prop 50 would temporarily redraw California’s congressional map ahead of
the midterms, as a response to extreme gerrymandering in
Republican-controlled states like Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina.
This ballot measure could have a big impact on who controls the U.S. House
after the 2026 midterm elections, so we’re urging everyone to vote YES.
➡️ Virginia: Key Statewide and House of Delegates Races
The stakes are often high in Virginia’s off-year elections—and this year,
they matter even more.
Swing Left has been working to turn out voters for Abigail Spanberger,
Ghazala Hashmi, Jay Jones, and eight Democratic candidates for the House
of Delegates.
Democrats have a chance to win a governing trifecta in Virginia (the House
of Delegates, the Senate, and the Governorship), which would give them the
power to:
* Advance a progressive agenda
* Protect Virginians’ rights and freedoms
* Push back against Trump and his harmful agenda
And in addition to being a sign of how voters are feeling about Trump,
this election will also decide whether Virginia is able to move forward
with a redistricting initiative similar to California’s. For the process
to move forward, Democrats will need to pass the measure for a second time
after the newly elected delegates are sworn in next year. That makes
holding and expanding a Democratic majority in the House of Delegates
absolutely crucial.
➡️ Pennsylvania: Supreme Court retention race
We’re also watching for results in Pennsylvania, where Swing Left’s
non-partisan affiliate organization, Vote Forward, has been working hard
to encourage voter turnout.
Today, Pennsylvania voters will decide whether to retain three state
Supreme Court justices who have a consistent record of defending and
expanding voting rights. The outcome of this race could determine not only
the future of fair maps and voting access in the state, but also set the
rules of the road for national elections in 2026 and beyond. This court
has made several decisions in recent years that have directly impacted
elections for the U.S. Senate and U.S. President. If you’re in
Pennsylvania, make sure to vote today!
The outcome of today’s elections will not only have a major impact on the
midterms, they’ll also broadly be interpreted as a barometer for how
voters are feeling about Trump and what’s to come in 2026 and beyond.
