Four years later, we stand on the cusp of the second January 6th.

After the first attempt bottomed out, MAGA determined that their next coup would happen without ski masks and zip ties but rather within existing systems.

Today, MAGA attempts a forced takeover of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and God help us if we lose. If they take it, they control swing state Pennsylvania and its 19 electoral college votes for the next decade and beyond.

If they win, they ban abortion, redraw the maps, and we will never win an election here again, not in 2026 and not in 2028, where Trump has claimed he’ll seek a third term. A coup in all but name.

On Sunday night, Donald Trump formally intervened in the race to help carry the MAGA effort to remove the Democratic judges over the line. When Trump tells his base to vote, they listen. This will give MAGA a massive turnout boost. There is no doubt about it. But we can mitigate its impact.

Last week, Defend Our Courts placed a massive last minute $500k TV and digital ad buy to help spread the message that the only way to protect abortion in Pennsylvania is by voting Yes. It was money we technically didn’t have (we owe nearly $500k to vendors).

While we were able to recoup that money over the weekend, Trump’s intervention has meant we once again had to spend our entire warchest, this time on rapid response texts and hyper-targeted digital ads to turnout our voters, and we will need to quickly recoup that money today to remain financially solvent.

It is an unenviable position, but these are the tough choices we are forced to make in a race with life or death consequences like this one.
