On November 4th, 1983, 42 years ago today, a small group of passionate Canadians led by Dr. Trevor Hancock gathered at Carleton University with one simple, bold belief:
That a new kind of politics was needed to protect the living world we all depend on.
That belief sparked the founding of the Green Party of Canada. A movement that lives on through you.
Because of you, the Green Party has put climate at the heart of Canada’s political conversation, elected voices like Elizabeth May who speak truth to power in Parliament, and proven that Green values can win votes, and hearts, from coast to coast to coast.
This is your legacy. You helped build something extraordinary.
But today, that legacy is being tested. November 4th, 2025 marks Canada’s 2025 budget release and with it, more choices that will shape Canadian’s future and the health of our planet. Division in politics is deepening. Climate disasters are worsening. And the only party built entirely around protecting people and the planet must grow stronger to meet this moment.
That’s why on this Founding Day we’re asking:
