Earlier today, Art Hannemann announced his resignation from the position of State Chair of the Hawai'i Republican Party. We thank him for his service and wish he and his family well as they move forward. The Hawaii Republican Party believes it is important that members are given context and are fully informed of the circumstances surrounding his resignation.
In recent weeks, Party leadership has been working through several internal matters to ensure accountability and adherence to the bylaws that govern our organization. The State Executive Committee, led by officers elected alongside the former State Chair at the May State Convention, acted collectively and in accordance with established party procedures.
This included addressing disciplinary charges brought forward by members of the Executive Committee and affirmed by the Discipline Committee appointed by the former Chair, underscoring that no individual is above the rules or standards that guide our Party.
While these moments are never easy, they are essential to maintaining trust, transparency, and integrity within our ranks.
The Hawai‘i Republican Party remains firmly united in its mission: to uphold the rule of law, promote accountability in leadership, and advance the conservative values of faith, family, and freedom that define who we are. We continue to focus our efforts on strengthening our organization and preparing to elect strong Republican candidates in 2026.
Effective immediately, 1st Vice Chair Shirlene Ostrov will assume the role of Acting Chair, in accordance with Party bylaws. Chair Ostrov previously served four years as State Chair and brings valuable experience and proven leadership to this transition. The State Executive Committee met promptly to ensure a smooth and seamless continuation of Party operations.
Our Party’s foundation is strong, our mission is clear, and our resolve remains unwavering. Together, we will move forward in unity, guided by integrity, toward a brighter future for Hawai‘i.
