In 2007, with bipartisan support, George W. Bush signed legislation that created the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Now, Trump is weaponizing the bipartisan program to go after his enemies.
What Trump is doing is against the law — so today, I filed my 46th lawsuit against him. I’ll see the President in court.
Help me keep up the fight against this lawless, power-hungry administration — chip in today. [[link removed]]
This loan forgiveness program has helped millions of Americans build careers in public service. It promises that if you serve your community and make loan payments for ten years, your remaining balance will be forgiven. Millions built their lives around that promise — firefighters, 911 dispatchers, nurses, public school teachers, and so many more .
Now, the Trump Administration is pulling the rug from under them. Under this new Department of Education rule, people who work for organizations that are engaged in anything the Trump administration deems to have a “substantial illegal purpose” — legal services to immigrants, DEI initiatives, or civil protest, for example — could be excluded from the program entirely.
Let’s be clear about what’s happening: This is just the latest example of the Trump administration weaponizing the federal government to target those it doesn’t agree with and push its own agenda.
Since January, Trump has used federal power to prosecute people he views as political enemies, to threaten media outlets that criticize him — and even to target critical homeland security and public safety funding for states refusing to cave to his demands.
America’s public servants deserve what they were promised by their government — and the Trump administration deserves to be held accountable to the law. [[link removed]]
