Can I share something deeply personal with you, Herbert? 

I was raised by immigrant parents in Peoria, Illinois. They fought incredibly hard to build a better life for us, working day and night to achieve the American dream. 

But when we fell on hard times, we relied on food stamps and public housing to get by.

That’s where I come from.

Nothing came easy. I got my first job delivering newspapers, and worked at McDonald’s to help save for college.

So when I talk about going to bat for working folks here in Illinois, it’s not lip service. I’m talking about families like mine – and every family who knows what it’s like to struggle.

But Donald Trump has made life for working families harder. Right now, he’s cutting off all access to food stamps – meaning that children all across the country will go hungry. 

I won’t stand for that, Herbert.
