Native American Heritage Month, taking place each year in November, is a time to uplift the stories and experiences of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Island communities. It’s also an important reminder that mental health care doesn't look the same for everyone. Native American communities need and deserve culturally relevant suicide prevention resources.

You can help us to honor Native American Heritage Month by exploring the following resources and sharing them with the people in your life –– not just this month, but year-round:

- Watch this video from our Living With Suicide Loss series, in which AFSP volunteer Donna Wolff discusses the taboo surrounding suicide among Native American people and how she works to build healthy community following the death of her son: "[Breaking the Stigma of Suicide Loss in Tribal Communities.]([link removed])”

- Read and share our roundup of national mental health and suicide prevention [resources focused on supporting Indigenous Peoples]([link removed]).

- Watch this episode of our ongoing series, Elevating Voices for Long-Lasting Change, in which AFSP Senior Vice President of Research Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman moderates a discussion among three leading experts on mental health and suicide prevention in Native American communities: "[Preventing Suicide in Native American Communities.]([link removed])"

No matter who you are, you should feel supported in your mental health. Use the above resources, [take action]([link removed]) for suicide prevention, and [get connected]([link removed]) with an AFSP chapter near you.
