Friends, I volunteered at a food bank over the weekend to do my part to provide for working families and to shine a light on Trump’s disastrous, impending cuts to food assistance.

Food assistance like EBT (SNAP) and the Emergency Food Assistance Program help feed tens of millions of Americans, and Trump is set to let them go unfunded.

That’s right – it’s not enough that Trump and Republicans in Congress are shutting down the government because they refuse to back off their reckless cuts to the Affordable Care Act. Now they are using the food security of millions of Americans as a bargaining chip to play political games with government funding. It’s wrong and un-American.

In a time of unprecedented wealth and productivity in the richest nation in human history, it’s simply unacceptable that many Americans, especially young kids, struggle to get three square meals a day while people like Donald Trump and Elon Musk live like modern kings.

We don’t suffer from a scarcity of food in the 21st century — we suffer from the greed of the billionaire class that prioritizes tax cuts and budget slashing over providing for their fellow Americans.

I’m going to keep fighting every day for the future of federal food assistance programs as well as the health care plans of so many Americans who can’t afford the GOP’s planned cuts.
