Recently, a Wyoming man was justly indicted for extreme animal cruelty after running down a gray wolf with his snowmobile, dragging her to a local bar and tormenting her for hours before shooting her to death. But this disgusting act of violence is not an isolated incident. Wyoming and other states with crucial wolf populations have slashed legal protections for this keystone species, allowing cruel hunting methods, and putting forward anti-scientific mass-killing programs that threaten wolf conservation.

Despite the relentless attacks, we’ve still been able to win some important victories: A federal judge ruled that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service broke the law when it denied lifesaving protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies. But these wolves’ lives are still at stake, and the future of this species nationwide is too. We must continue to act until all gray wolves’ federal protections under the ESA are restored and strengthened across their entire habitat.
