John,
This week, the Supreme Court dealt a devastating blow both to reproductive health care access and to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) when they upheld a Trump Administration rule that said employers with religious or moral objections can just “opt out” of the ACA’s birth control mandate.
As a fierce defender of reproductive health care access, it makes me furious that 126,000 women may lose their access to free birth control. And more may lose it still, as companies now take advantage of this Supreme Court-endorsed loophole to deny reproductive health care. While my opponent has promised to stand “shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump” as an anti-choice champion, I will fight back.
On top of that, this decision is a reminder that the Trump Administration is still working day and night to get the entire Affordable Care Act dismantled in court. This October, the Supreme Court will hear arguments from the Trump Administration about why the vital provisions within the Affordable Care Act -- like coverage for folks with pre-existing conditions -- should be overturned.
I have fought to defend the ACA and voted for healthcare legislation that would drive down the cost of care and prescription drugs.
This election is going to be hugely consequential for health care -- which you can’t separate from reproductive health care access. You know where I stand. You know I’ll keep fighting tooth and nail. But we can’t let our opponent and National Republicans blur the lines or mislead voters. Will you chip in an immediate donation to help make sure we can get the message out?
Thanks,
Matt
