When Donald Trump and Republicans cut $187 billion from SNAP in their Big Ugly Bill, they demonstrated their disdain for vulnerable communities—choosing tax cuts for billionaires over feeding hungry children, adults, and people with disabilities.
Then Trump refused to release SNAP contingency funds to states despite their legal (and moral!) obligation to do so.
And now, the administration is slow walking the release of billions of dollars in November SNAP benefits, today responding to a judge’s order to disburse November SNAP benefits by only moving to fund about half of full payments1 despite the court explicitly detailing how they are legally authorized to fully fund SNAP.2 At a time when so many are struggling to put food on the table, we’re fighting back. We’re sending tens of thousands of messages to governors, members of Congress, and officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, urging them to hold this administration accountable and demand the release of full November SNAP benefits now.

These families face a lot of uncertainty about what to expect this month because of the administration fighting to withhold food assistance as a part of their larger strategy to ignore calls to negotiate a bipartisan plan to reopen the federal government. By refusing to use all available funds to pay full SNAP benefits, the Trump administration is ensuring that there will be delays as states grapple with distributing only about half the amount households should receive.3
