November 3, 2025

Dear John:

This past week, my committee had the opportunity to meet with students from all across the Seventh Congressional District that applied to be nominated through my office to one of the U.S. Service Academies. We appreciated seeing all the students interested in service to our country and in attending one of the academies.

If you or someone you know is interested in attending one of the service academies in the future, please check out my website or reach out to my office for more information on the process.

Democrats in their own words

The federal government shutdown has been going on for over a month now. And while Democrats admit to it being hard on Americans, they have yet to vote to re-open the government.

Leveraging the American people for their own gain, as many Democrats have been quoted as saying, seems to be more important than ending this government shutdown.

A total of 60 votes is needed in the U.S. Senate to pass the Continuing Resolution (CR). Fifty-three Republicans and three Democrats have voted to pass the CR. Just four more Democrat Senators voting yes would re-open the government and end the suffering of the American people.

Government Shutdown Effects on Minnesota

The House Committee on Budget provided the information below to show some of the ways that the government shutdown is directly affecting us here in Minnesota.

You can see the major impacts on the state in just a month and these are not even all the impacts we will see.

Please reach out to my office and share how the shutdown is directly impacting you. If our office can help you with any issues with any of the federal agencies, please reach out

Soybeans Update

I have heard from many in our district about the low price of soybeans and the concern that they may not be able to sell and make a profit from them this year. I was pleased to hear that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced last week that, under the terms of a new U.S.-China deal, Beijing has pledged to continue buying soybeans in similar volumes to those of recent years. Secretary Bessent stated that China has committed to purchasing 12 million metric tons of soybeans this season and maintaining import volumes of at least 25 million tons per year for the next three years.

I am grateful that President Trump is continuing to support our American farmers, including those in the district, through the ongoing trade negotiations. The optimism surrounding this deal is evident in the price of soybeans, which has increased to $11 per bushel, the highest it has been in over a year. I will continue to seek ways to support our farmers and ensure that we are prioritizing American products and the American people.

Letter to AG Bondi and FBI Director Patel

I recently joined on to a letter with my colleagues to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel. In the letter, we call for an investigation into the intelligence cover-up of a December 2015 report that raised concerns over then-Vice President Joe Biden's corrupt family influence ties to Ukraine.

In the letter, we state, "On October 7, 2025, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) declassified documents pertaining to then-Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Ukraine in 2015. CIA sources within the Ukrainian government highlighted they held strong concerns regarding the Vice President’s corrupt family ties within the country.1 Biden and his National Security Advisor, Colin Kahl, asked the Intelligence Community (IC) not to disseminate the intelligence report – despite the document reaching the necessary threshold for dissemination – displaying yet another example of how Democrats have blatantly weaponized, and tarnished the integrity of the IC to further partisan ends."
