THE FORUM DAILY

Migrants who once headed north are now traveling south, as the Trump administration’s border and immigration policies make welcome in the United States seem unattainable for many, reports Daniel Gonzalez of The Arizona Republic

Media reports and what other migrants are saying fuels decisions to turn back, Gonzalez reports.

Juan Piña, a 45-year-old migrant from Venezuela, saved up for months to make the journey north with family members. They made their way through six countries, including five days in the Darién Gap. Now, in Tuxtla Gutierrez, a city in south Mexico, they have decided to turn back.

"We sacrificed a lot to achieve that dream, to improve our family. Now we will see what awaits us in our country, Venezuela," Piña said.

Separately, in many Chicago neighborhoods, locals are stepping up in an effort to protect their neighbors, reports Heather Schlitz of Reuters

"We are not a violent city. This is not a war zone, and I think these guys are terrorizing us and trying to incite us," Courtney Conway, a lifelong Chicago resident, said about the actions she has seen from Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officers in her city.

In an interview with CBS News’ Norah O'Donnell, President Trump said immigration raids "haven’t gone far enough."

On a happier note, congratulations to the never-say-die Los Angeles Dodgers on their World Series win. James Rainey of the Los Angeles Times revels in the team’s combination of international and American-born stars and Series heroes.
