John,

Every 16 hours, America throws away enough plastic trash to fill the Dallas Cowboys' stadium -- the largest football stadium in the country -- to the brim.[1]

The vast majority of that waste is never recycled. Instead, it ends up in landfills and incinerators, or polluting our oceans and environment.[2]

We can do better.

PIRG is leading the way by campaigning to phase out the most wasteful single-use plastics, and working to convince corporations to make and use less plastic in the first place.

But it took us years to create this mess, and we're looking at a long road to solve this problem. The very best way you can make sure we have the ongoing resources we need is to become a monthly donor.

So we're asking you today: Will you sign up to donate monthly to help solve America's plastic waste problem?

America's plastic problem has gotten way out of hand.

Most of us diligently recycle, take reusable bags with us when we shop and look for new ways to stop using so much single-use plastic "stuff." Yet despite our best individual efforts, the world is producing twice as much plastic waste today as it did just twenty years ago, and more than 91% of that trash is either landfilled or incinerated.[3]

If we're going to solve our plastic waste problem, it's going to take large-scale, systemic change.

That's why we're working at the local, state and national levels to enact common-sense policies to reduce plastic waste and urging big corporations like Amazon, Trader Joe's, Sysco and Coca-Cola to do their part by simply cutting back on the amount of waste they create in the first place.

The best way to support our efforts is to become a monthly donor to U.S. PIRG because it gives us the long-term support we need to plan for the future.

Will you join our monthly giving program today? Even giving $10 a month can make a big difference.
