Iowa is on the cusp of real change. But to make that change a reality, we’re gonna have to fight like hell from now through Election Day.
On November 3rd, Iowans have a chance to replace right-wing Republicans Rep. Steve King and Sen. Joni Ernst with two progressive Social Security champions. Polls of both races show dead heats, and with our support, Social Security will win!
Theresa Greenfield, who is running against Ernst for Senate, understands the critical need of a strong Social Security system. She speaks passionately about how Social Security’s survivor benefits did exactly what they were supposed to do after her husband, a lineman at the local power company, was killed in an accident at work.
And J.D. Scholten came within 10,000 votes of unseating famously racist Rep. Steve King in 2018, and was poised to defeat him had King not lost his primary. But the Republican nominee is just as bad as King, he’s just less infamous.

Theresa’s running for the U.S. Senate seat once held by retired Senator Tom Harkin―the senator who first introduced Social Security expansion legislation in 2012. We can think of no better turn of fate but to send a progressive who understands, first-hand, the value of Social Security to hold the Senate seat once held by Tom Harkin.
Meanwhile, Ernst is an outright enemy of Social Security and Medicare. Last year, during a town hall meeting she said, lawmakers should discuss cutting Social Security “behind closed doors" where they can’t be held accountable to the American people.
Social Security Works has already run mobile billboards throughout Iowa to remind voters that Ernst wants to cut Social Security without shouldering the blame. Together, let's keep up the pressure and make sure this November Iowa elects a Senator and a Representative who will fight to protect and expand Social Security.
