Our country has long been raided by wealthy corporations and the super-rich at the expense of the most vulnerable among us. The CARES Act for coronavirus relief has been no exception.

The CARES Act allocated $349 billion to the Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to help small businesses and working people get through part of the coronavirus crisis. But within weeks, the program dried up as wealthy, publicly traded companies raided the funds with ZERO oversight.

Just this week, we learned that billionaires and multimillionaires - not to mention Jared Kushner's family, billionaire Kanye West's company Yeezy, a pro-Trump super PAC, the libertarian Ayn Rand Institute, and a bunch of wealthy Trump donors - received millions of dollars in PPP loans.

From the onset, the Trump administration resisted oversight - refusing accountability and declining to disclose how taxpayer money was spent. Even Congress hasn't been able to find out if fraud has occurred or even who received funds.

These PPP loans were intended to help working people and small businesses get by during a period of extreme economic pressure. Instead, wealthy corporations forced themselves to the front of the line. Now, working people in this country are being left out to dry while corporations profit unabated.

The Coronavirus Oversight and Recovery Ethics (CORE) Act would make it harder to fire government inspectors general, give subpoena power to the congressional watchdog tasked with monitoring coronavirus relief funds, and protect whistleblowers in the public and private sectors who come forward with evidence of fraud related to the coronavirus response.

It's time we take action and hold Trump accountable for contributing to inequality. That's why we're trying to collect 10,000 signatures of people who support the CORE Act. Can we count on you?
