Dear PFAW Member,

A strong public postal service has been a cornerstone of our democracy
since its founding. We must protect it.

Since 1792, USPS has ensured that every American, no matter where they
live, can receive essential packages, prescriptions, ballots-by-mail,
birthday cards, letters, and bills at an affordable cost. A letter from
Washington, D.C. to Texas costs the same fifty-five cents that a letter
from Texas to Alaska costs.

While the USPS has become particularly strained during the pandemic, its
vital services are perhaps even more necessary than ever before. But due
to the decades long effort to undermine the agency in favor of
privatization and the need for additional resources to protect essential
workers in the midst of the pandemic, the already struggling agency is
facing extraordinary challenges to stay operational.

And with the 2020 election around the corner, where many Americans will
likely cast ballots by mail to mitigate risks of voting in person in the
midst of a pandemic, the work of the USPS is crucial to the future of our
democracy.

In these challenging times, we need to be connected and we must strengthen
the services that keep us in community with one another. The USPS plays an
