It’s been a busy few weeks here in Virginia’s 10th District, and I wanted to take a moment to share what I’ve been seeing and hearing on the ground.

Over the weekend, I met with local business owners in Rappahannock County, who shared how the ongoing federal shutdown is hitting their bottom line. With many federal workers and contractors furloughed, families are watching their spending, and local shops are feeling the impact.
These conversations are a reminder that Washington’s dysfunction doesn’t just make headlines, it affects real people and communities.
This week, I also met with local nonprofits, food banks, and health providers in Loudoun County, including Mobile Hope, the Loudoun Free Clinic, and the Dulles South Food Pantry. Each of them told me the same thing: demand is up, and resources are stretched thin. Families who were once stable are now struggling to make ends meet as health care costs rise and SNAP benefits remain frozen.
The shutdown has put tremendous strain on our community, but I continue to be inspired by the resilience and compassion of the people I meet. From local leaders coordinating housing assistance to food pantry volunteers keeping shelves stocked, Virginians are stepping up for one another.
At the federal level, I’ve been pressing for answers and accountability. I’ve called attention to the administration’s decision to fire federal workers, delay vital programs, and withhold emergency funds that could temporarily sustain food assistance programs like SNAP. These are unnecessary, self-inflicted wounds, and they must end.
The good news is that county officials and community partners are acting quickly. Loudoun County has already set aside $5 million to support local human service nonprofits. It’s proof that when the government and communities work together, we can soften the blow and prevent a deeper crisis.
I’ll keep working in Congress, and across Virginia, to bring this shutdown to an end and to ensure families, workers, and small businesses have the support they need to recover.
