Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson projected that the current shutdown
could be the longest in history — and he won’t even consider negotiating.
Let that sink in: Trump and his MAGA allies are playing political games
with people’s lives, with zero regard for who gets hurt.
If they get their way, millions who rely on the ACA could see their
premiums skyrocket overnight. This isn’t just about extending these tax
credits. It’s about not having to choose between putting food on the table
and paying for insulin. It’s about being able to afford life-saving care.
And this isn’t new. Republicans tried this in 2013, shutting down the
government in a failed attempt to repeal the ACA. In 2017, Trump tried
again with his “repeal and replace” plan. Each time, millions of lives
were at risk — and each time they failed because people like you stood up
and fought back.
They won’t get away with it this time, either.
